President: Leia Parker
Second-year MSN/DPD; Seattle, WA.
I first received my undergraduate degree from Bastyr in Nutrition and Culinary Arts in 2016, where I had the opportunity to refine my culinary skills while also incorporating my nutrition background. This inspired me to want to do more within the nutrition community, which lead to my journey to becoming a dietitian. I love how much food impacts our body and I want to teach and inspire people that food can be your medicine. When I am not at school, studying, or working; you can probably find me in the kitchen cooking up a storm, spending time outside, or chasing my puppy Leonard.

Co-Vice President: Kathy Conery
Second-year MSN/DPD; CA.
I’m originally from Northern California, and earned my first degree from San Francisco State University in Creative Writing.  After graduating, I dove deep into an exploration of what I really wanted to do on this planet, and realized that helping people achieve their optimal health was a pretty worthy goal.  Uncovering just how to do that led me through massage training, a master’s in Traditional Chinese Medicine, multiple herbal medicine courses, and finally here at Bastyr studying nutrition.  I’m super passionate about real food as the root of our health, and integrating it with herbal medicine and an active lifestyle. I try to practice what I preach as much as possible through cooking, going to farmer’s markets, spending entire mornings looking through the pages of beautiful cookbooks and running the trails around the Pacific Northwest. I hope to be a great role model for my two daughters.

Co-Vice President: Flannery Nielsen
Second-year MSN/DPD; Seattle, WA.
I’m a Seattle native and have my BA in Spanish from the University of Washington. When I decided to become an RD, I knew Bastyr was the only place for me because of the emphasis on whole foods nutrition and development of culinary skills coupled with an integrative, holistic approach to health. When I’m not studying, I’m often experimenting in the kitchen, teaching or practicing yoga or enjoying the outdoors with my pup, Zoey.

Treasurer: Halena Lam
Second-year MSN/DPD; Seattle, WA.

I graduated from Washington State University with a Bachelors in Biology. Following graduation, I pursued careers in the food and medical industries before focusing on earning my MSN/DPD. In my free time, I volunteer for several organizations and enjoy hobbies which include traveling, hiking, photography, painting, and learning more about different cultures and cuisines.

Secretary: Marika Miller

Second-year BSN; Puyallup, WA.

I’m homegrown in the Pacific Northwest and I have my AS from Walla Walla University. Bastyr is my new home, and the community that is fostered here holds a special place in my heart. As a foodie, I love learning about nutrition while also being able to sample many of my culinary creations along the way. As a future dietitian, I plan to work with under-served communities, as an advocate and educator. When I’m not busy with school, I enjoy spending time in nature, cooking, and crafting.
